General power points (GPOs) are usually found in abundance in all modern homes and businesses. We have become so heavily reliant on electrical appliances to make life easier, that we probably couldn’t live without them. Older period style homes usually have a limited amount of power points and the reason for this is that they just weren’t required at the time as there were so few electrical appliances.
double power points

Double Power Points

Double power points have been around for years and are the most common type of power point found in homes and business, they are able to accept up to two 10 amp appliances.
double power points extraswitch

Double Power Point With Extra Switch

Double power points with and extra switch are able to accept up to two 10 amp appliances and they incorporate a switch that can provide isolation for things like induction cooktops or ovens. By using a power point with an extra switch you can reduce the need for a separate switch plate on walls, this can reduce clutter.
usb power points

USB Power Points

USB power points allow phones and tablets to be directly plugged into the USB port built into the front of the power point. They take away the need for chargers left plugged in power points and come in both USB A and USB C.
single power point

Single Power Points

Single power points are not often seen around homes and business but they are still used. A single power point can accept one 10 amp appliance and are great for things like fridges, range hoods and TVs that only require the use of one 10 amp outlet.
15amp power points

15amp Power Points

15 amp power points are single power points used for dedicated circuits. They can be used for ovens that require their own circuit and are easily identified by their large earth pin socket.
smart power points

Smart Power Points

Smart technology Bluetooth and WIFI controlled power points and switches are rapidly evolving and are becoming much more affordable. They are synced through apps on your smart device and can be automated through your devices Bluetooth or WIFI. Smart power points are great for controlling plug in lamps inside your home, but we find them particularly convenient for scheduling external lighting to come on at specific times. These systems work by creating a Bluetooth mesh within your home that can be linked to a gateway that communicates with your WIFI giving you full control of your smart power points at the touch of a finger from your smart device wherever you are.
external power points

External Power Points

External power points are ingress protection (IP) rated power points that are rating accordingly for external influences, we commonly install double external power points in carports and alfresco dinning areas. Single external power points are used for gas hot water systems for ignition purposes.

There are lots different styles of power points to fit all different budgets and applications, some of the power points we use and recommend for standard power points are Clipsal C2000 series and Trader Puma. For a more sleek and stylish power point we recommend Clipsal Iconic or Hager silhouette.

For architectural style it’s hard to look past Clipsal Saturn Zen or Zetr.
